Our aim is complete freedom
At Siyakunakekela, most of our time is spent liaising with schools, delivering much-needed pads, and raising funds and awareness for our period poverty charity in South Africa. Yet, with all this daily activity, we sometimes forget to pause and celebrate our successes. And the truth is — we make a profound difference.
Period poverty takes a heavy toll on a young girl’s mental well-being — eroding her confidence, fuelling anxiety, and leaving her feeling isolated. By stepping in with practical help and emotional support, we create the space for something remarkable:
Freedom from anxiety
One of the most immediate benefits the girls experience is freedom from the mental anxiety that period poverty brings. They know Siyakunakekela and its supporters are standing beside them. They no longer carry the fear of leaks, ridicule, or going without. That weight lifts — and in its place comes relief, dignity, and peace of mind.
Freedom to feel supported
Every donation is more than a pad — it’s a message of care. Girls often describe it as feeling like they have “emotional arms” wrapped around them. They know they are not alone. They feel protected, supported, and valued — a sense of belonging that can transform their mental health.
Freedom to grow in confidence
When girls no longer worry about their periods, their confidence begins to rise. They feel stronger, more capable, and more willing to dream. Siyakunakekela opens the door to possibility.
Freedom to talk, learn, and trust
Through our soft mentoring and advisory work, we create safe spaces where girls can open up about periods and sex. Here, they learn the facts, ask the questions they can’t ask at home, and share their own experiences. This freedom to talk openly fosters resilience and emotional strength — crucial building blocks for good mental health.
At Siyakunakekela, freedom is our gift to young women. With £25 a month, you can give a whole class of girls the dignity and future they deserve.
…or donate whatever you can comfortably afford.
