The bottom line – money
For the Siyakunakekela team to continue protecting the futures of young women and tackling period poverty in South Africa, we need money. Did you know it only takes £25 per month to fulfil the sanitary needs of every schoolgirl in an entire class? You’ll agree, that’s a very small price to pay to preserve dignity and avoid the horrors of using improvised tampons and pads.
Of course, we greatly appreciate larger, one-off financial gifts. Every penny is welcomed and spent wisely on the production and distribution of our 100% biodegradable, Siyakunakekela-branded products. But as much as we value those donations, it is the smaller, regular contributions that enable us to plan our product drops and grow our distribution network.
Small, regular contributions are our lifeblood. They ensure continuity in our work and equate to helping one schoolgirl for a month for every £1 gifted. Think about that — such a small amount of money to make a child’s life so much happier and full of promise for the future. Please consider regularly giving anything you can comfortably afford.
Please:
- Make a regular £25 (or affordable) monthly donation
- Organise fundraising events
- Spread the word (especially to men)
- Share and follow our socials
How not to help
We are blessed to have so many well-meaning people always looking for ways to support us. They offer sanitary products, suggest schools in need, and even volunteer to deliver our products far and wide. Sadly, we have to decline most of these generous offers. Here’s why we must be so careful about what we can accept:
Do not donate sanitary products
As much as it seems obvious, we cannot accept sanitary products. Our pads are manufactured for us, using 100% natural cotton, and are fully biodegradable — degrading in weeks, not centuries like many mainstream products. They are neutral in smell, free from perfumes and detergents, and stored responsibly with our drivers to keep logistics efficient and cost-effective.
Do not suggest schools to help
When we take on a new school, we must be certain we can deliver consistently — no gaps, no shortages — just reliable help for those in need. We already have extensive lists of schools to help, which we onboard strategically as funding allows. If you know of a school, it’s almost certainly already on our radar.
Do not overstretch your generosity
Our mission is to help people out of poverty, not push them into it. Some supporters are so committed they risk going without themselves — please, only give what you can afford.
The difference you can make
Every pad we deliver is more than just a hygiene product — it’s a day of dignity, a day in school, and a step toward a brighter future. Your regular support doesn’t just change one life — it can transform an entire community.
By giving monthly, you’re not only providing girls with the products they need but also helping us fund essential education and mentoring for boys, breaking the cycle of stigma and ignorance for generations to come.
You have the power to help us end period poverty in South Africa. Let’s make sure no girl’s education or dignity is sacrificed simply because she menstruates.
