How we spend your donations in the fight against period poverty in South Africa

We can’t do it without your support

For far too many young South African women and schoolchildren, period poverty isn’t just a monthly struggle — it’s a barrier to education, self-esteem, and a brighter future. At Siyakunakekela, we believe every girl deserves dignity, and every woman deserves a fair chance. But we can’t do it without you.

That’s why we’re committed to using your donations with care, intention, and full transparency. Here’s how your generosity is put to work:

85% goes directly to the product
The vast majority of every donation — 85% — is spent on the actual purchase of sanitary pads. They’re 100% biodegradable and made from natural cotton, ensuring that girls and young women have access to safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly protection.

10% supports our owner-driver distribution model
We partner with responsible, independent drivers from the communities we serve. This not only ensures reliable delivery of sanitary products, even to hard-to-reach schools, but also creates local jobs and builds economic resilience. Your donations help fuel this grassroots network.

The final 5% covers minimal running costs — and nothing more
We don’t spend money on rent, electricity, or warehouses. Our model is intentionally lean. Our drivers store products responsibly, and our operational footprint is as small as possible. That means more of your money goes where it truly matters — into the hands of the girls who need it.

Eco-conscious, always
We’re deeply aware of our environmental responsibilities. From our carbon-light distribution approach to our plastic-free, biodegradable products, we’re as committed to the planet as the young women we serve.
